Saving a frame from a video
A video is a quick series of pictures, and any one of them can be saved as an image. People do it to make a thumbnail or a cover for a post, to keep a screenshot of a moment without the player's buttons on it, or to pull a still from a clip for a design.
The picture is saved at the video's own size, so a 1080p video gives a 1920 x 1080 image. Choose PNG for the cleanest result, or JPG for a smaller file. Use the step buttons to move a tenth of a second at a time to find the best frame.
How to save a frame from a video
- Choose a video, or drop it on the box.
- Move the slider, or press the step buttons, until the picture shows the frame you want.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP and press Save this frame.
Questions people ask
What size is the saved picture?
The same size as the video: for a 1920 x 1080 video the picture is 1920 x 1080 pixels.
PNG or JPG for a frame?
PNG keeps every pixel and is best for text and sharp edges. JPG makes a smaller file and is fine for photos and thumbnails.
Can I save several frames?
Yes. Move to another moment and press Save again as many times as you like.
Why won't my video load?
Your browser may not be able to play the video's format, for example some HEVC files outside Safari. Convert it to an H.264 MP4 first.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device. The video is never sent to a server, so it also works for private clips.
