JPG cannot be see-through. White is the usual choice.

Free, no sign-up. It runs in your browser: your files and text never leave your device.

When to turn a PNG into a JPG

PNG keeps every pixel exactly and can be see-through, which makes files large. JPG drops detail the eye hardly notices, so a photo or a screenshot that weighs 3 MB as a PNG can be a few hundred KB as a JPG. That is why upload forms, email and websites often ask for JPG.

JPG cannot be see-through, so the empty parts of a PNG need a colour. White is the usual choice; pick another if your picture will sit on a coloured page. Flat graphics with sharp edges, like logos, can look slightly fuzzy as a JPG: keep those as PNG.

How to convert PNG to JPG

  1. Choose your PNG files, or drop them on the box.
  2. Choose the background colour for see-through areas and the quality (92 is high).
  3. The JPG files are made at once. Download each one or all of them in a zip.

Questions people ask

Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG is a lossy format. At quality 90 or more the difference is hard to see in photos. Sharp text and flat graphics show it most.

What happens to a see-through background?

JPG has no transparency, so the see-through parts are filled with the colour you choose. White is the default.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes, up to 30 at a time, and download them together as a zip.

Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser on your own device. Your pictures are never sent to a server, so it also works for private photos.
